Super foods for anemia – National Nutrition week 2018 ( Sept-1-Sept 7)

National Nutrition Week 2018 is observed from September 1 to September 7. It ‘s purpose is to spread awareness of the issues related to malnutrition like under-nutrition, anaemia and low birth weight in children.

In today’s modern life, people are addicted to junk foods which is not the healthiest option. To keep the body healthy and fit, it is imperative to ensure that you consume right nutrition. Your body’s health reflects what you put into it.

Nutrition is the study of nutrients in food, how the body uses nutrients, and the relationship between diet, health and disease.

For good health and growth of body it is important to have a balanced diet. Balanced diet has all essential nutrients like vitamins, proteins, minerals, carbohydrates in it to live, grow and for proper body function.

If you are not consuming healthy foods, your body may suffer from various health conditions. Anemia is one of the most common condition in which the blood doesn’t have enough healthy red blood cells.The main reason behind anemic conditions is a deficiency of iron in the body.

Symptoms of anemia

  • Easy fatigue and loss of energy.
  • Rapid heart beat, particularly with exercise.
  • Shortness of breath, particularly with exercise Dizziness.
  • Pale skin

Food for anemic

Spinach, peas, mustard greens and broccoli are a good source of iron.

Water stored in copper vessel is known to be very helpful in anemic conditions.

Folic acid helps in making red blood cells. Consume green leafy vegetables, peanuts, dried beans, bananas etc.

Anemia tends to weaken the immune system, making body prone to infections. Vitamin c rich foods boost immune system so have citrus fruits like oranges, sweet lime and lemon.

Pomegranate is one of the best fruits to increase haemoglobin. It is a rich source of iron, protein, carbohydrate and fibre.

Carrot is a good source of iron, potassium, manganese, zinc, copper etc. It helps fight anemia.

Jaggery is loaded with iron and its regular consumption can increase the quantity of iron in blood. It is filled with minerals, vitamins and proteins which makes it a useful option to purify blood and regulate liver functioning.
