WATCH-Tamil Nadu Bride performs martial arts to spread self-defense awareness among girls

Tuticorin: It’s rare for a bride to go out of her wedding hall and spread any social awareness message. However, a bride from the Tuticorin district of Tamil Nadu did exactly the same by performing traditional martial arts on Monday.

The 22-year-old Nisha walked out of the wedding hall right after her marriage and performed traditional martial arts called Surul Vaal and Silambam to create awareness among the girls to learn defensive moves.

Nisha, who is a sportsperson, grabbed sharp curling blades to perform Surul Vaal at the wedding hall in Thirukolur village in the district.

The video of the bride has gone viral on social media.

“It was not easy to perform in a sari along with heavy makeup as a bride. I used to practice martial arts in a T-shirt and track pants,” a report in Times of India quoted Nisha as saying.

The bride performed martial arts for 30 seconds in her silk sari. A commerce graduate, Nisha says she wants to become a police officer.
