Meet the woman entrepreneur who launched India’s first allergy-free fashion jewellery and accessories brand
A startup entrepreneur, Prachi Chopra founded India’s first online hypoallergenic fashion jewellery and accessories brand- INSIA in 2015.
At the outset, Prachi completed her MBA to learn the nitty-gritty’s of the business before working with fashion houses and corporates. The entrepreneur has almost 10 years of experience in the field of Business Development & Marketing. Post the sabbatical, she had taken after her first kid was born, she joined the business venture of her husband in HongKong.
Her success story
Prachi moved back to India in the year 2012 because of her personal reasons. After a year she gave birth to her second child and with motherhood comes great responsibilities. Sometimes, it also requires a woman to take a break from her professional life. Since then the idea of being an entrepreneur started haunting her day by day.
However, in 2014, she was having a rough time to find some unique jewellery which she can wear for the birthday party of her daughter.
She says, “I had to compromise on the style and the jewellery that I had picked up from a popular brand, gave me rashes too.”
This, eventually, led to the launch of her venture ‘INSIA’ in 2015. Before commencement, Prachi did rigorous market research and found that a problem as the jewellery they were supplying to some big names in the overseas market was following stringent norms for quality which was missing in India.
Following the passion for designing jewellery, Prachi made a comeback by balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship. She initiated her own Statement Fashion Jewellery brand to cater to the desires of women with an emphasis on Allergy-free jewellery. These pieces are nickel-lead free which is the icing on the cake.
“The challenge we face till date is to create awareness amongst people for the skin safe or hypoallergenic jewellery,” recounts Prachi.
Whether its a startup or a well established business, the respective entrepreneurs have to face innumerable challenges. The major obstacle that INSIA is facing is to generate awareness amongst the women who get allergies by wearing artificial fashion accessories. Furthermore, they have to compromise on their fashion needs with precious jewelry such as gold and silver.
Through their venture, Prachi wants to urge the womenfolk to flaunt the style statements with their trendy, unique and hypoallergenic kind of jewellery. Their crowning achievement is that these unique pieces are affordable too.
The entrepreneur acclaimed that due to being bootstrapped, the company faces challenges with marketing budgets vis-a-vis big players.
“We have been proud to be India’s only brand which exclusively deals in hypoallergenic or skin safe fashion jewelry,” remarks Prachi.
Besides, the fashion brand has been recognized for their work by various organizations since inception such as felicitated with Women Achiever by ICMEI and Women of Influence Award in the years 2016 and 2019 respectively. Moreover, they have been nominated for TimesSheUnltd. Fashion Category by the Times of India group.
