Not everything will work in your favour at all times but you need to take successes and failures in your stride to move ahead and that’s how you set an example for your kids. – Mrinal Jha Founder, MAJ (Mrinal Abhigyan Jha) Productions

Please share your journey into the Television Industry?

Writing has always been my favourite pursuit. It was my professional tool when as I started my journey in advertising as a copy writer. It was also the time when the Indian satellite television industry was just taking off.

During my stint as a copy writer, I also penned my first novel ‘November Rain’ in collaboration with my husband, Abhigyan. During that phase, Ekta Kapoor happened to read my novel and soon after asked me to write for Maano Ya Na Maano on ZeeTV. From here on I continued to get other projects for television.

What are some of your successful projects that you think were a breakthrough in your journey?

There have been various milestones in the years that I have worked in this industry. One of my earliest milestones was Kaahin Kissii Roz. It was among the first show sat the 11 p.m. slot with a huge fandom. It was also the first daily social thriller.

That is one of my initial successes and among my most favourite. Besides this, some of my successful shows also include Banoo Mai Teri Dulhann on Zee, Maayka, Ishqbaaz, Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo among others.

My other memorable milestone was producing Kaali- Ek Agnipariksha. It was also one of the first limited run serial on TV that handled a difficult subject and a part of the Nai Soch campaign by Star Plus. Qubool Hai 2.0, airing on Zee5 Premium is the latest show by Mrinal Abhigyan Jha Productions (MAJ) in the web space. It is being widely appreciated for its for its production quality and the overall content.

How supportive have your family and partner been in your career?

As the name suggests, Mrinal Abhigyan Jha Productions is a combination of both our names which is why this is out and out a team effort by me and my husband Abhigyan. This goes to tell you that we bank on each other and this is as good as it gets. We are also lucky that our family has always been supportive and encouraging of our journey.

You have also started your company in 2019 please share what it is all about?

With various platforms that are available today, such as TV and OTT, and with so many new genres, the audience is now far more receptive to unique and experimental concepts. I saw this as a good time to set up a company to put forth my ideology.

I have always wanted to create original content in multiple genres and formats. I finally took the plunge in 2019 with Abhigyan, setting up MAJ Productions. Under MAJ we have created Qubool Hai 2.0 and will soon be releasing India’s first ever musical web series ‘The Socho Project.

Being a Mom how do you balance work, kids and your own me time?

When I started with Sony Entertainment, my daughter was less than a year old, but that never felt like a roadblock to my career or family life. My secret mantra is to enjoy whatever I do, whether it is taking care of my kid, producing/writing a show, or just sitting and chilling while reading a book.

What are some of your tips for the aspiring Moms who want to start working on their dreams?

I would like to say that you just need to begin; don’t wait, don’t waffle, and don’t waste time!

Even in the worst case scenario, where things go out of control, it is absolutely fine to fail. Infact, failures are what make you strong enough to deal with life when you set out on your entrepreneurial journey. Not everything will work in your favour at all times but you need to take successes and failures in your stride to move ahead and that’s how you set an example for your kids.
